Sandy Shortt is obsessed by finding missing things. Not satisfied by the usual parental answers of "sometimes things just go missing" she will spend hours hunting high and low for the missing sock or teddy bear that seems to have inexplicably vanished into thin air. Initially triggered by the disappearance of her childhood enemy and neighbour, Sandy moves from school to a career working as a Garda before settling into life running her own missing persons agency.

Soon, Sandy's life is taken up with trying to find other people's loved ones who have disappeared. But despite this, she never seems settled and continues to look for what is missing in (and from) her own life.

Then Sandy herself goes missing after arranging to meet Jack, who is searching for his own missing brother, Donal. Sandy finds herself in a place called "Here" which is where all the missing people, and missing things, end up. Will she find her missing childhood enemy and Jack's brother? And will she ever be able to get home again?

This is a great book, which is well written, has a good storyline, and more than a touch of the magical fairytale about it.

Well this was different!!

From the cover, and previous books, you 'expect' it to be chick lit with a twist, but I found it more how I think sci-fi would be LOL (not that I read sci-fi).

It was interesting, and well written, but I think the ending let it down for me, things weren't tidied up enough - I like to know exactly what happens, I can't spoil it for others, but it didn't really explain what happened to one of the characters.

I'll now pm Yesterdaysgirl for their address then get it in the post.

Thanks for sharing.

Journal Entry 10 by yesterdaysgirl from Frimley, Surrey United Kingdom on Monday, May 28, 2007
Started reading this today. I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get to this... Real Life (readers of my livejournal will know all of that) rather got in the way!

Journal Entry 11 by yesterdaysgirl from Frimley, Surrey United Kingdom on Thursday, June 7, 2007
Finished this last night, sorry it took so long!

I loved reading this, Ahern has a beautiful style, and I look forward to reading other novels by her.

I found this book hard to put down. I could really identify with some of what she was going through.

Not too sure about the ending though, something just didn't feel right about it. But I don't want to elaborate incase it spoils the book for the next reader!

Will now PM SocialMisfit and aim to post the book asap.

Fantastic book, I really enjoyed this and couldn't put it down. Would have liked a bit more of a story on the people that live in 'Here'. Will pass on to the next person.
