Augusten Burroughs is a 24 year old advertisment executive living in Manhattan. He likes to party, especially drinking, but he doesn't think that he drinks too much. He sometimes misses important meetings, and always smells like alcohol. Finally, his Boss gives him tow choices: Rehab or lose your job. He chooses Rehab.
He goes to the Pride Institute, a rehab center specifically for Gays and Lesbians. Throughout his 30 day stay he realizes many problems that he has. After rehab, he returns to Manhattan to take on life. A friend that he met in rehab stays with him for a while to aid in his recovery.
In AA he meets a crack addeict whom he falls in love with. Their relationship is tumultuous, and things are made even more difficult by a death in Augusten's socal network. "Dry" is Augusten Burrough's search for sobriety.

"Dry was an incredible book! Augusten Burroughs is a hilariously dirty wroter whose cynicism and outlook keep the readr hooked page by page. Burroughs' previous books were not as psychologically in depth as "Dry"; I was pleasantly surprised. "Dry" is a book that will make you look at your own life. The story makes you laugh, gives you hope, tears your soul out, and then glues it back in with cheap Elmer's School Glue. Reading "Dry" is like reading your own diary with different names and more alcohol.
