This gentle and intriguing mystery is the sequel to Maisie Dobbs and the second in a series which I think now stands at four. It can be read independently but I believe the others are equally entertaining so would recommend reading them all!
Maisie Dobbs is a female private investigator, based in London but travelling further afield, around 1930, the date of this particular story. Jacqueline Winspear captures a time and place in which the Great War is still having an impact on many damaged lives.
She's hired by the wealthy Joseph Waite to find his missing daughter without involving the press or the police but Maisie soon suspects that Charlotte's disappearance is linked to the murders of two of her friends and the supposed-suicide of a third. Can she uncover the truth?

I enjoyed this pleasant cozy mystery very much! The characters, especially Maisie and her sidekick Billy, are appealing, the book is set in a very interesting time period, and the mystery was quite intriguing. The ending has left me keen to read the next book in the series - I want to know what happens in Maisie's personal life.
Thanks Nu-Knees for sharing - it was a very satisfying read! I'm going to check Cliff's wishlists before passing this along.
