Journal Entry 1 by Korky from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 4, 2007
Amazon Synopsis:
New York City, 1896. Hypocrisy in high places is rife, police corruption commonplace, and a brutal killer is terrorizing young male prostitutes. Police Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt is struggling to make headway against prejudices and determined to improve New York City.
I thought this was a gripping read, the characters were well thought out and believable. I enjoyed the criminal profiling aspect of the story and the fact that it was such a new way of dealing with crime at the time. I'd recommend this even to people who don't normally read crime novels.

Caught from Korky some time ago at Milton Keynes Library Reading Group, but only just remembered to log it!
Journal Entry 4 by MsCombobulate from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire United Kingdom on Monday, July 2, 2007
An extremely intelligent and well written crime novel with a difference. Don't be put off by the 600+ pages, or having to get to grips with the large number of characters introduced in the first few chapters. Stick with it and you won't be disappointed. After a suitable break I shall be ordering his next!
Picked up in Milton Keynes Library, will be passing on elsewhere. I found the book well written but very heavy going with many characters to get to grips with. By halfway I wanted to know the ending and continued but by the end I wondered if it was really worth it.
