Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth

Apparently this is the novel that made Herman Hesse famous. Am curious.
Though I had read some Hesse before, I had never heard of this book. Very different from what I expected.
This could be a German version of A Portrait of the Artist. The coming of age, the struggle against religious conventions, the mystical revelation of fate.
A very short but compelling novel. I strongly recommend this.

No time to read it - too many other books. Come find it in Wilmington, DE Trolley Square!

I did indeed find it in the Trolley Square neighborhood of Wilmington (Delaware, USA), two years after it was released there.
I read and enjoyed the book. It was brief but theologically intense and satisfying.
Now I am taking it with me on a trip, to make sure the book sees as much of the USA (and, hopefully, the world) as possible.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I found this book at a motel 6 in Garland, TX. I read it over a period of a few weeks. It was an odd, quirky, yet intense and rich book. I never thought I would like this type of book, but I found myself inexplicably drawn into the narrator's mind and soul. Very thought-provoking. I left it on the windowsill of the Ghiradelli Square building on North Point street.
