Journal Entry 1 by Skyring from Reid, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Saturday, February 1, 2003
I'm a confirmed Len Deighton addict. His stories of war and espionage, often linked into sagas, always have a place on my bookshelk as keepers.

This one's a spare, a great tale with a twist about fighter pilots in England during the Second World War.

Journal Entry 2 by Skyring at Cooleman Court in Pearce, Australian Capital Territory Australia on Monday, February 3, 2003
Released on Monday, February 03, 2003 at Cooleman Court in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Australia.

Monday afternoon. I read in the paper that Waramanga post office was a collection point for a book appeal organised by Valerie Parv for the bushfire victims. As I had a box of books ready to go, I trotted around and discovered that A) they weren't the collection point and B) I wasn't the first to ask the question that day.

Where shall I put them, I asked, and they politely told me that the Commonwealth Bank was taking them, and on further inquiry that the nearest branch was at Cooleman Court.

So I trundled around to the Commonwealth Bank there, walked in with box of books, asked a chap if this was the place. Blank expression. He asked the manager, whose equally blank face spoke volumes. Donations of money, sure, books, hmmmm.....

So I went back out and left the box of books on a bench outside.

Took a quick drive through nearby Holder, where we used to live, and around the top of Duffy. House after house after house burnt out. And we saw only a tiny fraction of the damage. Whole blocks of twenty houses or so at a time. Just awful. Lots of work still going on, two weeks and more after the fire.
