I started - and finished this book today. Took a total of 6 hours to read. It was a really good book, and really held my attention.

paperback.

This book will be mailed when I get RaineeRose's address as it is going out on a bookray.
The only thing I ask about people, is they read it in a timely fashion, and send it on. When it reaches the last ray participant, please pass it on when you are done with it as well....however you may see fit.

Thanks.

Received today. Thanks so much! I have a couple of books ahead of this one, but I'll read it ASAP and send it along to the next person.

I've heard many people say that reading this book is like coming across a train wreck -- no matter how much you want to turn yourself away, you can't. I have to agree. I thought the book was average, yet I couldn't make myself stop turning the pages; I had to find out what happened to this boy next. Before I read this book, I was interested in seeing the movie, but I'm no longer sure that I am. It was an okay book overall, but not one I would be likely to recommend to others.

Thanks, princess1984, for starting this ray.

I'll be mailing this to Bibliocrates this afternoon.

This book arrived safely today. Thank you for sending it my way RaineeRose! I just saw the movie and can't wait to read the book.

Journal Entry 9 by Bibliocrates from Pueblo, Colorado USA on Wednesday, April 4, 2007
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but it is definitely not for those who are not easily offended. I found it extremely disturbing, graphic, and twisted. It was difficult to put down, like watching a train wreck, not that I've ever watched a train wreck, and yet it was quite funny. Augusten had a bizarre childhood, talk about your dysfunctional family! I highly recommend this book.

The movie is pretty good too.

Thank you for sharing this book princess1984!

I recieved this yesterday and will read it next. My job has changed so my time to read has too but will get to this ASAP. Thanx for including me in the ray.

WOW! Unbelievable. The only reason it is believable is it is hard to imagine soemone with such an imagination to make this stuff up. It is amazing and terribly sad that people raise their kids this way. I did enjoy the book though and had a hard time putting it down. I really wanted to know how these people were going to live to adulthood. I am not sure I want to see the movie though. I probably will some day though. Thanx again for including me in this ray. It is packaged up waiting for an address for the next person.

So sorry I took so long with this book. It is on its way to OpheliaPhillips now.

I agree with the other entries. This book had a definite train wreck quality to it. Some of the stuff in it was too crazy for me, but I just had to keep reading to see what could possibly happen next. Thanks for sharing this book princess1984.

Arrived today. I actually read an article about his brother a few weeks ago in the paper. I've saved the article, so I can post it along with the book for the rest of the ray.

Thanks esperanza03 for posting this to me!

OK..... woah, well, my childhood was really incredibly tame! I hadn't really known too much what to expect from this book but I'd heard it mentioned a bit so I thought it was one of these books I had to read.

What a really crazy childhood... with some really crazy characters. Did he exaggerate for the book or was it all really like that? And I can't decide whether the doctor really did rape his mother, or that was just another effect of her madness. And although Bookman was very twisted, manipulative and abusive, you've got to wonder what on earth ever happened to him.

The Finches were a mad family. There were parts that had me laughing (such as predicting the future from what they left in the toilet bowl; or the episode with Hope and her cat Freud speaking to her in her dreams) to the just down right disturbing. Heck, everyone was just so self-involved and obsessed with expressing themselves and doing it all their way that no one minded that chaos ruled.

There was an article in the paper about his very briefly mentioned elder brother. The brother who has - oh my goodness, what a big surprise! - also written a book about his childhood memoirs. Seems to be the fashion at the moment. So I thought I'd just pop this in with the book for the rest of the ray.

I've already got K2005's address so I will get this in the post tomorrow. Thank you princess1984 for setting up this ray and giving us the chance to read this!

hmm. well, i didn't enjoy this book, i nearly sent it on to the next person without finishing it but i decided i wanted to know what happened to him, whether or not he survived his 2 dysfunctional families. parts of it were funny but mainly it just made me feel a bit sad that he missed out on so much of the good side of family life.
