Blurb on the back cover says...

"Melanie walks in the midnight garden wearing her mother's wedding dress; naked she climbs the apple tree in the black of the moon. Disaster ensues, transporting Melanie from rural comfort to London, to the magic toyshop."

This is a well written masterpiece. I took a few attempts to "get into" the novel as I was under the impression that the book was darker than it actually is. The characters are brilliant and the ending inevitable yet shocking. But my heart was with Melanie all the way - she was such an endearing child in her innocence and strength. Her friendship with Finn was a foregone conclusion one just had to await how things would pan out.

I shall definately search other titles by Angela Carter in the future.

This is one of the authors who I wanted to read something from, but I didn't know how to get a book. Thanks a lot, Jinglefish!

Caught with today's mail.

Wonderful book, with some excellent instances of poetic language. Maybe the ending is too open for my taste, and that's why I don't give this book a 10 out of 10.

Melanie and her two younger siblings are to live with an uncle of them due to their parents' passaway. Melanie had expected the tragedy, because of her reckless tear-up of her mother's wedding dress. Their new home (at the magic toyshop) has a dark atmosphere, full of lurking sexuality hidden behind the hundreds of hand-made toys.

Reserved for my own draw. Thank you Jinglefish, for sharing such a wonderful book!

RELEASE NOTES:

Sent on Monday to Boirina. She's won it through my raffle-RABCK.
