Set in New England mainly and London partly, On Beauty concerns a pair of feuding families - the Belseys and the Kipps - and a clutch of doomed affairs. It puts low morals among high ideals and asks some searching questions about what life does to love. For the Belseys and the Kipps, the confusions - both personal and political - of our uncertain age are about to be brought close to home: right to the heart of family.

Strangely unpleasant but compelling characters. I enjoyed On Beauty in a masochistic way.

I hope you enjoy this Zadie Smith novel. I think it caught me on a bad day, because I loved White Teeth.

Received in a bloedengel bookbox. I think I'm going to hang onto this one. I'm tempted to try it, because it's 'a classic'. However I haven't had that great of a track record with books that (almost) won the Man Booker Price. Let's find out!

Although this is not a book that blew me away, it was both a tragic book and a funny one. The characters were really relatable even though they made choices I don't think I would have made. The depiction of every day family life resonates with me, because I recongise a lot in it, especially looking back at my own family life now.
In short I liked the book and enjoyed the beautiful way in which Zadie Smith manages to capture an entire family on the brink of destruction (or so it seems) and still in the end make all the familymembers likeable, even Howard.
I don't know where it will go next from here, but I'll let it travel onwards.
