I release loads of Ali Smith because she's my number one favourite writer. She can take the same words that we all use, every day, and get so much more out of them than anyone else. She's a breath-takingly talented writer - brave, insightful, lyrical, original, imaginiative...
Anyone who reads this and likes the way she writes should move on to her short stories, which are stunning. In all honesty, I enjoy her short stories far more than her novels. Probably because she doesn't go in for too much plot or character development, prefering to focus on virtuoso word-smithery, which works far better in the shorter form.
So, The Accidental is very good, but it's not her best work. You've got to love Astrid though!

I haven't read this but, as I'm going to Wild Release it on Tree-hugger's behalf, I thought I'd make a Journal Entry to explain why it's in my possession. It isn't, it's just passing through my hands on its way to find a new reader!
This is unique in that it's the first book I've ever released without reading it personally!

I've been reading this delightful novel on a dull, hot Sunday, immersed all but my head & hands in an inflatable kiddie-pool in my garden. It had turned up at the local library"s book sale, so I paid for it... hence, it wasn't found in the WILD proper.... perhaps in a feral state ... but when I've finished reading, I'll release it on the beach, back into the wild.
