I have wanted to read this book for a long time. Ottawabill is the BEST!! this will e going to cestmoi next as she is fit to be tied that I beat her to it.
I liked the way this book told the story through not only one character but a couple. It dipped back and forth between the initail incident and what was happening in the present. Even though I could predict most of what would happen in this book, the ending held a little surprise for me. Amanda's actions that night on the ice were not quite what I thought they would be. This is going to cestmoi next.
Being passed to cestmoi on Feb 9th to continue its journey.Enjoy!!!
Another book that I've seen mixed reviews on and want to see what all the fuss, or lack thereof, is about!
Great novel. I also liked the way the story was told thru the past and present and thru more than one character. It was a little predictable but I did have direr (is that real word?) ideas about what happened to Mattie than the truth.
Its interesting that so many people called Amanda by different names, Amanda, Mandy, Amy - as if she was different people to all of them - and I guess in a way, she was. Probably we all are different people to those who love us, that part of her characterization was done very well.
As for her "illness", I haven't decided if she was truly mentally ill or suffered from depression that would not have been diagnosed or treated in the 1920's.
Great story that was full of suspense and also love.
This is going to Penhaligon next, she requested it a long time ago..so its about time!
Enjoy!

Had a nice rendezvous with cestmoi and poohbear3 today and came home with this book. Cestmoi and poohbear3 have both read this book and liked it, and since I trust their judgement, I'm looking forward to reading it too. They know about my ever expanding book piles at home so I'm sure they will give me ample time to read it - I think their book piles grow just as mysteriously as mine do....
Heard alot about this book, so I wanted to see what all the buzz was about. For the longest time I just didn't get it...the story was ok, but nothing special...then I reached Part Two.
Part two is where all the twists and turns and intrigue happen. Several times I wanted one or another of the characters to just do it - tell the truth, tell the secret, but no...they usually just told a lie or the bare minimum to get out of a situation. Overall a good story - once you get throught part one.
