Raymond Chandler's best and most enduring Philip Marlowe novel. After reading this I had to read them all and can now say with conviction that Chandler is unmatched as a crime fiction writer.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

Not yet inducted into the BookCrossing Fraternity, Porto Lounge on Fishponds Road is still well ahead of most coffee shops, having it's own set of shelves dedicated to book swapping in an informal way. A sign simply asks you to replace any book you take with another. As well as this one I also left The Lovely Bones, Around the World in Eighty Days and If I Were God For A Day.

Venue (Bristol's guide to what's on) describes Porto Lounge, third in The Lounge chain, as "...the best thing to hit Fishponds for years. Early risers can enjoy a coffee as they digest the morning papers, have breakfast, then stay and enjoy the homemade burgers for lunch". Well, I can certainly recommend the Lounge Eggs, which came on a toasted muffin with a home-made (?) Hollandaise sauce. I'd just come down by train from the Midlands and it was exactly what I needed. I'm moving to Exeter early in 2007 and am hoping fervently that there is a place as good as this down there.
