This book is great. I did not even know that we had this until my eye caught sight of the book on one of our bookshelves. It was given to my mother. I love it. I am going to keep it. (Because it is my mother's).
This book is an amazing adventure of family love, friendship, and lots and lots of humor.
This book is perfect for humor adventure lovers, and is a fun way to read with lots of chocolate!!!

Always fun, I read this again for the first time in at least 15 years. Funny how you get things you didn't get as a younger person---like how the despicable Mrs. Salt's first name is Angina. Bahahaha! Something I didn't know is that Dahl was originally an adult author and known more as an adult author when he published this, the second of his books for children, in 1964.
Favorite quotes:
"...a poached egg isn't a poached egg unless it's been stolen from the woods in the dead of night! Row on!"
and
"Violet, you're turning violet, Violet!"
The inside cover bears the names of two of my aunts (along with my own in childish scrawl); and as it is a Book Club Edition, I assume my grandmother ordered it for them along with her monthly order from Doubleday or one other of those fun but forgotten mail-order book clubs. The dust jacket is in shreds---but how else do we identify our best-loved books?
