purchased off oliveoyle's wishlist...for the Holidays. I almost clicked children's books as its type, but that is not fair to this wonderful tale of political intrigue...it is so very much more than a children's book (even tho I first read it in 6th grade, as a class assignment)

Finished this last night and I must say I really enjoyed it, far more than I thought I would. I saw the film when I was little and it absolutely terrified me! But as well as this part of me was saying "this is a book about rabbits, how exciting can it be?!" But I was really surprised by how caught up in this I got. I agree with you innae, I don't think it's a children's book, even though Richard Adams originally created it for his children. The themes it covers and the rabbits' experiences are very grown up and in some cases, quite disturbing. The characters are very well drawn and are in no way just rabbits. They have the emotions, friendships and insight of people and their experiences deal with quite pertinent themes, such as man's destruction of the world and survival in a time of chaos. A wonderful book that deserves far more credit and celebration as great English literature than it has received. Thank you again for sending me this, innae.
