I met the author of this book while she was participating in the Shanghai Literary Festival--she was kind enough to speak to our writers' group afterward. This looks like a fun read, and if the other members of my old group would like to read it too, I'll pass it on to them afterward.

From the cover, you would think this book is pure chick lit; instead, it's a cautionary tale about the allure and disenchantments of fame. An Australian girl group strongly reminiscent of the Spice Girls find their way to the top of the charts, then have to cope with life after stardom. The characters were very well drawn and the story consistently entertained. All in all, a very good read. I'm not feeling amibitious enough to mail it out after all, so this one is in the wild.

I picked this up at a Bangkok Bookcrossers meeting a few months ago. I agree completely with Genevalove -- it is definitely not chicklit, but I'm not sure how I WOULD classify it. It was an enjoyable read, but I wish the author had pushed it more in the direction of satire. She certainly had the material!
