High Fidelity
6 journalers for this copy...
I absolutely loved this book... which is why it's a bit hard for me to let it go. But this is a great way to share it with others. Anyhow, I really identified with Rob in many ways... mostly with the music obsession thing. And I enjoyed the "top five" lists throughout, which is something I do myself. Any music lover should read this book.
Also, from a female perspective, it was interesting to read about Rob's troubles with women, particularly how he has issues with commitment/marriage. (What guy doesn't?) And his explanations for himself and his behavior are quite funny at times.

Mailed to Elizabeth in Alabama, as part of a Nervousness bookring. Enjoy : )
It was interesting to go back and read the book after seeing the movie. There were some differences, but the movie stayed true to the book for the most part.
"High Fidelity" had me from the first "Top 5" list, all the way till the last and beyond. A maginificently written book, I just couldn't put it down (no exaggeration!).
In fact, I'm off to see if I can buy myself a copy. It's just too damn good. ;)

received from a nervousness.org bookchain. I'll read it and pass it on.
I liked this book more than the movie. It was fun to read and it's pretty cool to find out what single guys think about commitment and relationships.

I've been eagerly awaiting this, which came in the mail today. I'll be starting in on it in a few days.
The only other Nick Hornby book I've read is How To Be Good, which I loathed. I hope this one's better.

Ended up taking this with me on my NYC weekend after all. I'm about half way through the book and so far so good. I'm not in love with it yet, but I don't hate it either. I should be done with it shortly, so I've contacted the next person in the ring to see if it's okay to send it along in the next few days.
Finished this last night on the train. It was good, but not great. Still, I didn't actively despise this like I did How To Be Good. The protagonist's simplemindedness and juvenile nature worked in this one, and served Rob's character well, whereas in How To Be Good it was just irritating. High Fidelity was a worthwhile read, but nothing to write home about. I love the Top 5 lists, though. I really liked the Englishness of the book and wished they'd included that in the movie rather than Americanizing it.
I'll be mailing it off to the next BookCrosser in the ring tomorrow.

Got as part of nervousness bookray.....
I had a hard time sympathizing with the main character at first. He seemed a hopeless case. By the middle of the book I found myself quite interested in what was to become of him. I have to say I was very surprized that Laura changed her mind. Anyway, it was a nice story and I enjoyed how it was written in a funny, casual Bridget Jones tone(minus the distracting diary format) My top 5 songs of all time: 1) Late for the Sky-Jackson Browne, 2) Southern Cross-CSN, 4) Band of Gold-Freda Payne, 5) One Particular Harbor-Jimmy Buffett. I don't think Rob would approve.
Mailing to AutumnMaple on Tuesday, May 27. I just noticed something: Rob and Laura like the Dick Van Dyke show?
