Commentary on Animal Farm

1. I would change the ending of the book ‘Animal Farm’ by creating a scenery whereby Napoleon would execute a plot to destroy his human neighbor Mr. Pilkington and Mr. Frederick or allowing Snowball who had suffers expulsion, to emerge and overthrow Napoleon.
a. Firstly my reason to execute a plot to destroy both Mr. Pilkington and Frederick was in order to reinforce animalism on other forms.
b. Secondly my reason to create a scenery, allowing Snowball to emerge and over through Napoleon who ruled by manipulation, would have created a logical sequence of exciting events; it would have allowed the ending to better reflect true animalism through the characteristics of Snowball in this story.
2. The character that interests me the most from the book ‘Animal Farm’ was Boxer. Even though the thoughts of animalism were not originated from him, his motto “I Will Work Harder” along with his obedience to authority, had contributed greatly to the reality of animalism. His proactive-ness was one of the main fundamental factors that brought hope to animal farm. I see Boxer as one that had a more human character who cares for the weak and place the other animals and things to be done on the farm before his personal needs.

3. The theme for animal farm was based on dreams and aspiration. It first and foremost was initiated by Major, who shared his dreams and aspiration of animalism to all the other animals on animal farm. This vision and hope for animals to own and manage their own farm was also shared by most of the other animals on the farm.
Even though Major had died before the rebellion, his dreams and aspiration that was shared lived on and was attained. Some of those things attained were:
• The animals believed that after the rebellion things would get better.
• The animals would own and manage their own farm.
• That all animals would be equal.
• The dream of building a windmill.
• Boxer dream and aspiration was to gather enough rocks for the construction of the windmill before he retired.
4. There were many interesting conflicts in the book ‘Animal Farm’ some of which were:
• The establishment of the seven commandments which was amended to meet only the needs of the pigs.
• The mental manipulation of other animals by the pigs.
My reasons for the above are based on the following:
• All animals are to be equal; however the pigs believe that some animals are more equal than others. The pigs regarded themselves as being above all the other animals. (This was displayed in the distribution of food, clothing and privileges. The other animals were restricted from freedom of speech, movement and association while the pigs enjoyed unlimited access even to taking on the human traits.)

• No animals were to wear clothing, smoke or live in a house; however, the pigs believed that they were to be an exception.
• Most of all Slavery was no longer to be practiced; however, the pigs implemented a form of slavery.
• The pigs would always twist what was agreed upon, suppressing the other animals using their knowledge of reading and writing.
5. I highly recommend the book ‘Animal Farm‘to the other students in my study skills class. Animal Farm is a book that has the implication of a positive and negative message towards humanism. There are many other lessons that can be learnt by readers of this book. Some of which are:
• Inconsistency in our character.
• Having a clear goal or objective.
• Manipulations of individuals’ minds.
