What schools are really about according to Winston Churchill in 1944: "School have not necessarily much to do with education ... they are mainly institutions of control where certain basic habits must be inculcated in the young. Education is quite different and has little place in school."
Its also about the hidden curriculum:
* Passive acceptance is preferable to active criticism.
* Discovering knowledge is not a task for pupils.
* Recall and regurgitation are the highest forms of intellectual achievement suitable for pupils.
*The voice of authority is to be automatically obeyed.
* The feelings of pupils are irrelevant.
* Education consists of memorising the provided Right Answers.
* Competition is more important than co-operation.
* Helping others always gives way to getting on oneself.
* Writing and reading are more important than talking and thinking.
* Men are more important than women.
* Dogma is more desirable than doubt.
