Written in 1956 by one of England's first openly gay novelists. Back cover blurb promises "Dickensinian humor and nerve." Intro by Jane Smiley.
I am so happy to have found the one and only, very special bookcrosser who had this book on his wish list. RABCK to eastbaybookmisr, with all my best wishes for the new year.
"Caught" this in the mail yesterday as an obscure Wishlist RABCK! Thank you!
2005 New York Review books trade paperback of the 1956 English tale. Introduction by Jane Smiley. This was on my list of best modern classics to read.
I can let this go after I read:
1952 Hemlock and After [n/a]
Edit April 25, 2018: I'm afraid I had too much difficulty with this one, and did not really have enough time to give it a fair shot. Clearly I missed a lot of stuff here. Now I need to move it along. So I currently have this ranked at #997 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.
