Clive Cussler (and co-authors) is one of the best present-day action-writers. And this time it's not only about the ocean, it's a lot about the Namibian desert, diamonds, eco-terrorists, oil-spills, hurricanes, african rebels and and and... You just cannot stop reading!
I'm making a bookray out of this one. The following bookcrossers are taking part in this bookray:
"LindyLouMac" from Vetralla, Italy (from and to EU only!)

"BrooklinBrat" from Brooklin, Ontario, Canada (worldwide)
"redhatbird", New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada (worldwide)
"perryfran" from Rockville, Maryland, USA (worldwide)
"sgscarcliff" from San Francisco, California, USA (worldwide, 2007)
"genielady" from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, USA (USA pref.)

Wow this one arrived quickly! Thanks very much book-man-8, honoured to be first for this ray which is actually for my husband. He is delighted that I have arranged this for him as he enjoys Clive Cussler novels and he will be starting it over the weekend.
OK my husband has finished reading this already! Now he tells me that in his opinion it is not one of the best novels by this author. In fact having just watched the film 'Sahara' from the novel by this author, he found it amazingly similar?? It will be interestering if other Cussler fans notice this! Meanwhile I have sent a pm to lapin-blanc for an address to send the book on.
Update:20/11/06 After some pm problems I now have an address for lapin-blanc. Unfortunately I cannot get to the Post Office until 27/11/06, it wil be posted then.

Even though I didn't find this book that great, I couldn't let it down. It is a good page turner. It is my first Cussler and I agree with LindyLouMac, it looks very familiar with the movie "Sahara". This book is now "en route" above the Ocean to BroolinBrat.

Arrived last night...Hurried to finsh the book I was reading just so I could start this - I'm enjoying it so far.
My apologies for holding this up for so long - it somehow made it to the bottom of my "to-be-read" pile, and I completely forgot I had it!
Thought it was a pretty gripping story, although I'm not so fond of the guns and stuff. When I read all the descriptions of the weapons, my mind sort of does this "blah blah blah" thing, like the teacher speaking on Charlie Brown cartoons! Still, skimmin gover those bits, I liked the story.
I've PMd redhatbird for her address, and will get it moving as soon as I hear from her.
Thanks for sharing!

Wow - another book-man-8 book to read! Received in the mail today and just when I thought I was getting caught up on bookring books. I am looking forward to this but I have about 1½ ring/ray books to read first. Hope to get to this in a week or two.
3/26/07 Update: Started reading this today - hope to finish and pass on in a week or two.

I hadn't read a Cussler novel in several years (probably about 10). This one pretty much is how I remembered them - loads of action bringing several good story-lines together. The first part of the novel where H.A. Ryder (a tribute to H. Rider Haggard perhaps??) and his group were being pursued across the Kalahari in 1896 was a great set-up to the rest of the story about African rebels, eco-terrorism, etc. I also enjoyed the Juan Cabrillo character and his group. I will have to read more of the Oregon Files novels in the future.
I have sgscarcliff's address and will get this book in the mail tomorrow. Thanks book-man-8 for another good one.

Received via USPS today—timing couldn't have been better. Thanks!!!!!!
Great book. Unlike previous journalers, I actually feel the "Oregon" books are superior to Cussler''s Dirk Pitt books. It makes me want to read the books DuBrul has written under his own name. I, too, thought it would be similar to Sahara, given the title and cover art, but the similarities are only cursory.
(Besides it was fun to picture Al Gore in the role of the crazed ecoterrorist.)
Releasing soon.
