The Thirteenth Tale

will decide to keep/let go after I've read
Oh my god. I LOVED this book and I can very highly recommend it. I got absolutely NOTHING done for this entire day of reading it. I laid back in my favorite reading chair and basically did not move. If you are a reader, you cannot afford to miss it. If you want a good story (and I don't know about you, but that's why I read), you must read it. Considering this is the first novel that Ms. Setterfield has ever written, it is incredible.
I love the quotation from the back of the book:
"What succor, what consolation is there in truth, compared to a story? What good is truth, at midnight, in the dark, when the wind is roaring like a bear in the chimney? What you need are the plump comforts of a story. The soothing, rocking safety of a lie."
It's SO incredibly true. Now, go get yourself a nice hot cup of coffee, curl up in your favorite chair, put a blanket over yourself and forget about doing anything else but reading this book. If you could possibly wait for a huge rainstorm, complete with thunder and lightning, that would be the best.
I can't give a review justice, so let me offer one instead from Julie Brickman, at the San Diego Union Tribune: here .
