purchased on Ebay, as it looked like a fun children's story, a nice fun, quick read. (Penguin 60's, the short mini books that are so adorable.)

Journal for my travel narrative bookbox.

There are a few rules I'd love if you followed:
1. Journal all books that you take out of the box
2. Add the same number of books that you remove from the box
3. Post in the box journal when sending and receiving the box, so I can track it
4. Please try to keep the bookbox for no longer than 3 weeks. If you think you'll be longer, just give me a heads up.
5. If the box is starting to show signs of wear, please replace it
6. Media mail is perfectly acceptable, delivery confirmation is up to you
7. Box returns to me at the end
8. Travel narratives only: no guidebooks, phrasebooks, non-travel books
9. If you could list in your journal entry which books are you taking and which ones you are putting in, I would appreciate it. Like seeing what happens between I send the box and when I get it back.
10. Have fun!

Here is a list of what books started in the box.

Journal Entry 4 by wingGoryDetailswing at Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Tuesday, May 29, 2018
The travel bookbox (forum thread here) reached me today - after I got home from mailing the Biographies of Things bookbox; those boxes really do pile up, don't they! Hope to get this one moving again fairly soon. (I love the little Penguin 60s books, and this is one I hadn't seen before; looks like a cute, if weird, children's story.)

Later: The story's very cute AND weird, a good combination - a boy coping with his grumpy, ailing grandfather, whose demands keep interrupting the boy's dreams. A friendship with an equally-weird neighbor girl helps the boy turn things around in unexpected fashion.

Re the bookbox: I'm taking out:

Maple Leaf Rag
The Horse Boy
Road Fever
The Waiting Land
To Hellholes and Back
By The Grace of the Sea
The Naked Man Festival
The Olive Harvest
New Europe

And I'm putting in:

When Wanderers Cease to Roam: A Traveler's Journal of Staying Put
The Stowaway: A Young Man's Extraordinary Adventure to Antarctica
The Way of Wanderlust: The Best Travel Writing of Don George
Around the World on Two Wheels: Annie Londonderry's Extraordinary Ride
The Panama Hat Trail
Ciao, America! An Italian Discovers the US
My Invented Country: a Nostalgic Journey Through Chile
Amore: an American Father's Roman Holiday
The Best American Travel Writing 2010

Journal Entry 5 by wingAzukiwing at Miami, Florida USA on Wednesday, June 13, 2018
Box has arrived! Yes, tell me about the boxes coming in together. I have the Indigenous Peoples book box with me now, and this one comes in before I manage to get that out of the door! At least it allows me to do some fun switch-a-roo with one of the duplicate books.

This box comes in sooner than I expected. I anticipate another box to come in sooner, so I've read up a bunch for that, but of course book boxes never behave, and this one sneaked up on me. I will try to see if I can narrow down my choices, if not, speed up my reading to finish some more TBRs.

Journal Entry 6 by wingAzukiwing at Miami, Florida USA on Wednesday, July 18, 2018
Sorry for keeping the box for a while, but I've found so many interesting books in it I have to read up a couple more to put in.

Here's what I'm taking out:
Spain
Grounded
The Way of Wanderlust
The Violet Shyness of Their Eyes
Around the World on Two Wheels
The Stowaway
Amore
When Wanderers Cease to Roam

And putting in:
Islands in the Clouds
Kingdom of Ten Thousand Things
Bones of the Master
Expats
Travels in Afghanistan
The Road to McCarthy
In Bear Country
Wild

Just so you all know, the box arrived yesterday, still in good shape. If I can fit everything back in once I've taken my choices and made my additions, I will try and reuse it.

I have selected 11 titles, my mom picked a few too (of those 11). I'll journal for her as she doesn't have a bxc account. I have five to add, so give me about a week to locate a few more titles to add and I will get the box moving again. Once I post this I will see whose turn it is next and contact them re: their mailing address.

The bookbox has arrived and it's FULL of good ones! I can't wait to really go through it and make my choices.

Journal Entry 10 by freezone at Leominster, Massachusetts USA on Wednesday, September 19, 2018
Received my new bookbox yesterday. A bit overwhelmed by all the choices. At first glance, I want to read everything! Started out by reading this book...it's the right length, after all.

Not the most gripping tale, but I'll reserve judgment till I know what the target audience (8 year olds?) thinks.

Journal Entry 11 by wing6of8wing at Silver Spring, Maryland USA on Wednesday, October 17, 2018
This box was waiting on the doorstep when I arrived home from work. I have a stack of books set aside from MaryZee's collection to be included in it. I have also reached out to the local BookCrossers ahead of this weekend's meet-up to let them know all of the books in play in case they wish to participate. Will keep you posted on how it all plays out and will try to get the box moving again within a couple weeks at the very most.
