Doctor Dolittle has so many pets that his patients won't come to see him anymore, so he learns to speak animal languages and becomes an animal doctor instead. He soon becomes famous among animals all over the world, and when the African monkeys start to get sick, they ask him for help.
This is a book that takes a flight of fancy and extrapolates it to the limit. A fun read.
My daughter found it rather stilted and unbeleivable - she didn't get half to joy I did when I read this as a child. Tastes change!
