Arrived here safely! =)
I am finishing another book and am so excited about starting this one by Monday!

Journal Entry 7 by dvg from Toms River, New Jersey USA on Monday, October 30, 2006
This wonderfully written book has so much going on: the meaning of friendship when it's not allowed, the danger of not paying attention when civil rights are slowly taken away, the struggle to just survive one more day. The tale is so extraordinary that you as the reader think that couldn't possibly happen!

Then the reader is reminded of secret wiretapping, of the with us or be unpatriotic, control over women much like that of the women in Afghanistan, of the public paying more attention to celebrity hijinks than to things happening around them. It makes the reader gets a bit scared of the possibility of a government fully in control of a person’s life.

This is a must-read book. It will make you think, it will be a cause for conversation. I highly recommend it and am buying a copy to wild release!

Emailed collectorkerri who is next on list. =)
Update: Sent to collectorkerri on 11/1/06. Enjoy!

I have a couple other bookrings to get to first, then I'll start this one.

Journal Entry 9 by collectorkerri from Springfield, Illinois USA on Monday, December 4, 2006
I have to admit, this book scared the hell out of me. As an American who is horrified at the turn toward the conservative that this country has taken during the reign of W, it had just enough realism that I could imagine it happening--kind of a "What would happen if Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson (ultraconservative religious leaders) ran this country?" Atwood's prose was so vivid that I could imagine myself living in that society. I also liked the imagined academic conference at the end that explained some of the background of the society in the book.

Off to Bulan-Purnama to continue the bookring.

Journal Entry 10 by Bulan-Purnama from Springfield, Oregon USA on Friday, December 15, 2006

A thought provoking story. Could the near future be like this? A scary notion, hope it is only fiction imagine by the author. Absorbing, mesmerizing throughout. Off to olered, thanks shorty04 for sharing.

Journal Entry 14 by olered from Salem, Oregon USA on Thursday, February 8, 2007
Well - I think I'm momentarily speechless. Perhaps I should wait and journal after I've had a night to sleep on it.?? This was very thought provoking (creepy was a good word- above) and I can see this sort of thing happening as we are often too 'busy' watching - and sometimes even being paranoid over - the wrong things. And in the wrong places. Perhaps I'm mistaken but I didn't think it was the our government that brought this book's pocket of society into being but a 'replacement' group that killed all and took over the government. I'll go back and look more closely at the beginning. We do still have some checks and balences although we certainly don't want to be giving any of our rights away under any system.

Oh my gosh...I am so sorry. I thought I had posted the book and last night while sitting in my chair reached down between it and the table to pick up a fallen bookmark----the package had slid down there in between. It will go in the post TODAY. I apologize again! With embarrased and blushing cheeks!

RELEASE NOTES:

I was not too impressed with the writing of this book. She wrote in present tense sometimes and in past tense other times. This made it a bit difficult fo rme to read. It's on its way to psyche.
