This is a fun little ( literally) book that is part travel book part mystery and in the traditon of Nick Bantock books is filled with great ilustrations and little treats.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the book is a visual feast. I am likely to read it again if I keep it but have been also waiting for the right opportunity to make a gift of it.

This beautiful little book arrived in the mail today. Thank you so much Ottawabill!!! It is absolutely gorgeous! I've thumbed through it lightly, and the illustrations are just so, so beautiful! The story seems fascinating as well, and I can't wait to read it! It's gone to the top of Mt. TBR! Should start it tomorrow. I also can't wait to share this lovely little gem!

Finding this book in the mail really made my week!!!!

Thanks, again, Bill!

Of course I've already raved about the illustrations, now I'll rave about the story. I loved it! The story moved at such a fast pace, and it was a story to get easily immersed in.

Normally I'm more into character-driven stories, but while this one seems more plot-driven, I was so into it!

I'd like to read it at least one more time before releasing it. It went by much too quickly! I finished it this afternoon.

The ending did seem a tad bit weak, but it also felt right; as if that was what had to happen next; but I wanted it to go on and tell more! I don't want to give any of the plot away, but I felt it ended too soon. Perhaps a sequel is in the works? I must find out!

I was thrilled to pass this beautiful book on to Busybooklover at yesterday's mini-meet-up.

Enjoy this beautiful little gem! :-)

Journal Entry 6 by busybooklover on Monday, March 29, 2004
Where to begin? This is such a *charming* book-- illustrated throughout with maps sketches, notes, clippings and various images that just beg to be poured over. I was tempted by this book at a mini-meetup (Thanks MissTree) I had vowed not to come home with more for my TBR pile, but for three reasons-- I couldn't pass this up. 1) MissTree LOVED it, and was absolutely GUSHING at how sweet it was that she got this as a total SURPRISE 2) It is truly beautiful and inviting graphically and I wanted to spend more time with it, and 3) I was excited to have a book with just "one degree of separation" from *Ottawabill* :D (Sort of a BC celeb or sorts who I admire... missed, then was glad to see back as he re-entered the forums). So, how could I NOT come home with this treasure-- per chance to rub cyber-elbows with THE Ottawabill! *Grin* *wink* I will bring this to the next meetup for Secretariat-- she wants to read but had to clear some room on her literary plate first. (THAT is willpower!) I say with both admiration and a bit of jealousy.

Released on Monday, May 03, 2004 at Given to another bookcrosser in n/a, n/a Controlled Releases.

Passed this on at todays meetup at the Naked Bean Coffee shop in Vista, CA. Off to visit Secretariat. I was unable to read it but I enjoyed browsing all the pages. Too many books too little time. :(
Happy journey little book~

Given to me by busybooklover. I have very quickly scanned a few pages of this wonderful book and decided it required a lot more time, so I've put it on my TBR. To be started as soon as I've finished the 4 books I'm currently reading. I'll give it back to Miss Tree when finished.

Received back from Secretariat and passed this beautiful little gem right on to Vraciousrdr. I'm pleased that this book is making the rounds! It's one that deserves to be enjoyed by numerous people! :-)

one day I will come home from a minimeetup without any books - until that day, my tote will always be full...

Looks interesting

Intriguing concept - enjoyed the empherma throughout the book, would loved for it to have been actual vs illustrations, would have added another layer to the story ala Griffin and Sabine. While I enjoyed the book, I was perplexed at the end and left wondering why the map appeared, what region it featured, does everyone have a different map, etc. Since I've got a box waiting to be sent out to another OBCZ, I'm including it.

This unique little book caught my eye when I unpacked the box. Just had to try it out for myself.

Unusual, easily readable story. I enjoyed exploring this book very much. Thanks to everyone for sharing, esp. OttawaBill!

This just arrived...looks like it will be fun to read. Thanks for passing the book along in this bookray.

I liked the book; thanks for sharing it...looks like it is off on a real international circuit. I thought the writing lacked a little excitement, but I enjoyed the layout and the collagework.
Off to Kansas next...

Looking forward to reading this one. Thanks.

Journal Entry 19 by daidy on Thursday, July 28, 2005
This book leaves a lot to be desired. The illustrations were interesting, but I wouldn't read the book just for that. The story could have been fleshed out a little more (I think the author depends on the "novelty" of the illustrations a litle too much) and while it was interesting, I thought it was just an average book - not one that I'm likely to recommend to others but not one that I'd warn people away from. I'm likely to forget about it quickly because it really didn't leave much of an impression on me.

Journal Entry 20 by Ceili from Baldwinsville, New York USA on Friday, August 5, 2005
Received today and I will start this as soon as I finish the book I am currently reading, which should be sometime tonight.

Thanks for letting me participate!

Update August 18: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved all the photos and bits of ephemera and I liked that it was written as a journal. I loved the magic and mystery of the story and the exotic locales and how Lydia and Chris seemed to look at things so differently. I will be looking for other Barbara Hodgson books to read. I understand that The Tattooed Map is being made into a movie to be released in 2006. While I like that idea I find that I rarely like the movie as much as I liked the book.

This is on it's way to twinkpuddin today.

Journal Entry 21 by twinkpuddin from Seattle, Washington USA on Tuesday, August 23, 2005
Received today! Am in the middle of another ray right now, but will begin right after - hopefully next week.

Journal Entry 22 by twinkpuddin from Seattle, Washington USA on Monday, August 29, 2005
Finished this last nite. It definitely resparked my interest in traveling to foreign places. The pictures and maps were a neat little addition. At first it took me a bit to get into the story, then I found myself really interested. But, in the end I felt a little let down. I guess I was expecting something more from the ending. I'll be interested in seeing how the movie portrays the book.

I have Abacus00's address and will hopefully be shipping the book off tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!!
