"In her funniest novel yet, Lauren Baratz-Logsted offers advice for all would-be girl detectives looking to uncover the truth about men: ask yourself, What would Nancy do? Charlotte Bell, a young nanny- burned by her relationship with her boss (liar! cheater!) in New York City, accepts a new position with the U.S. ambassador to Iceland. Once in Reykjavik, history begins uncomfortably repeating itself as Charlotte finds herself falling for Ambassador Edgar Rawlings. But where is Mrs. Rawlings? And, oh, by the way, is there a madwoman in the attic? Logsted delivers a funny, heartwarming story- part Charlotte Bronte, part Nancy Drew- about the choices we make, the risks we take and all the crazy things we do for love."(from publisher)

Light, fun read - enjoyable.

Thank you deereads, the book arrived today. And especially thank you for the absolutely beautiful bookmark, I just love angel theme. It actually reminds me of the small angel statue that hung above my bed as a guardian angel when I was a kid. :)

This book looks very good and I bet I'll enjoy it a lot. However, I won't be having time to read it in near future as I have quite many rings and swaps to read first. But I'll journal my comments when I'm finished.

Edit on March 24, 2008:
Just a note to say that I started to read this book on Saturday 22nd on my Easter trip to Parikkala (in Eastern Finland). Travel, little book, travel!

I finished this book yesterday. It was quite enjoyble, except that the chapters were too long. Short chapters gives the feeling of fast reading... The plot was good and succeeded at interest me all the way. Now I really want to read some Nancy Drew books; I know I've read them as a child so I was wondering if she really did all the things and was so old. We'll see.

Thanks for sharing, deereads. I'll put this in my availables, will figure out later what to do with it.

Got this from bookwormess today, thank you! I love the title of this book! I was a huge Nancy Drew fan as a kid. I've read two books by Lauren Baratz-Logsted before, The Thin Pink Line and its sequel Crossing the Line, and liked them both, so I'm hoping this one will be good too. :)

How Nancy Drew Saved My Life was perfect light reading and I enjoyed the book, even though it was completely unrealistic. Even though Nancy Drew is mentioned in the title, the book owes far more to Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, as the author has tried to create a romantic tale similar to Jane and Mr. Rochester. The funny thing is, she makes it completely obvious by having the characters in the book talk about the novel Jane Eyre and compare an event in this book to something that happened in Jane Eyre. On the negative side, I'm pretty sure the author has never been to Iceland (nor seen a picture of Björk) as that part of the novel is so unrealistic, as is the ending. If you can live with that, it's an entertaining light read.

Picked this up at a bc meet. Hording chic lit it seems... (and I once upon a time swore off it)

Ehem. I haven't read chick lit / romance novels in years and now that I read two quite close together, turns out the core of the story, the romance, is almost identical! A bit of a shame the stories seem to be very predictable, almost like there's a pattern to writing these, as the writing itself is quite enjoyable, in a very silly and light way. And really, leave princesses and Russian spies (I hope I didn't give away too much!) out, please!

oh dear, oh dear! I don´t like this book much at all! I really enjoy good chick-lits but this one is just too silly for me and when it´s too silly, it just gets on my nerves!!
I don´t know if the writer has actually been to Iceland or not, she could have gotten these information in travel books etc. I can say though that Icelanders are not all tall and blond, far from that. And we do not smoke so much as she writes about at the beginning of the book. And fish for breakfast??? what was that!! hehehe

Thank you so much! When I saw the title of this book I had to put it on my wishlist. It looks like a nice fluffy chick lit book. Thanks for sending this to me!

My Review: I enjoyed this story, but I have to admit it's one of the silliest women's fiction books I have read in a while! If you enjoyed Bridget Jones or The Shopaholic series then you will probably like this one. At first I didn't think I would finish it, but I gave myself some more time to read it and then I found that I did like the Charlotte Bell character and I wanted to see what happened in her life, so I finished the book pretty quickly.

Reading the part about Iceland, I felt sure that you can't really say ALL Icelandic people are tall, blond and smoke a lot. I've never been to Iceland, but that part was a bit cartoonish and unreal.

I liked it, silly as it was. I liked the character, Charlotte Bell. The plot was corny, but it reminded me of a script for an old black and white movie.
