From the back of the book;

"Sometimes subtle, sometimes striking, the interplay between our lives and our books is the subject of this unique memoir by well-known publishing correspondent and self-described 'readaholic' Sara Nelson. The project began as an experiement with a simple plan - fifty-two weeks, fifty-two books- that fell apart in the first week. It was then that Sara realized the books chose her as much as she chose them, and the rewards and frustrations they brought were nothing she could plan for. From Solzhenitsyn to Laura Zigman, Catherine M. to Captain Underpants, the result is a personal chronicle of insight, wit, and enough infectious enthusiasm to make a passionate reader out of anybody."

I finished this book a while back, but I must have forgotten to journal. Whoops! A witty, fun read. I could relate to a lot of the things the author said and found some great reading suggestions to add to my wish list.

This has arrived safely in New York. I should have time to start it this weekend. Looks great -- thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed this book, which was light and amusing. Some of the scenes resonated with my own experiences -- the feelings of smugness tinged with worry when I hate a book that everyone is raving about; the search for connections between what I'm reading and what's happening in my life. At the same time, I found the author somewhat long-winded and even whiny at times. I was disappointed that she wasn't able to end the book with something more compelling or thoughtful than a few pages of the sort of sentimental statements she would reject from anyone else's book.

I did enjoy being reminded of certain titles, and even added a couple of books mentioned to my wishlist.

The book will go in the mail to sharalsbooks later this week (mailed 5/31).

RELEASE NOTES:

Can't seem to find anything fitting my mood lately. Since my mind keeps wandering while reading and I have to keep going back and rereading pages, I've decided to move this one on to the next person.

Journal Entry 9 by kelwood from Toledo, Ohio USA on Sunday, July 1, 2007
This showed up in the mail Friday and am looking forward to it. Like the author, I have way too many books, too!

Journal Entry 10 by kelwood from Toledo, Ohio USA on Tuesday, July 24, 2007
I enoyed this for the most part, though at times it seemed to bog down as if she was trying too hard to be clever. I did get some good reading ideas to add to my lengthy wishlist.

Have sent second PM to GooseInEngland. Will move on to next reader if I don't hear from her soon.

Journal Entry 11 by JerrilynnL from Denver, Colorado USA on Saturday, September 15, 2007
Arrived in today's mail. The title is so true ... but looking forward to reading. :-)

Journal Entry 12 by JerrilynnL from Denver, Colorado USA on Friday, December 28, 2007
An enjoyable memoir that reflects my love of books (and large library). I managed to get this one read - a big feat for me these days. The book needs some minor surgery (the cover is coming off slightly) and then I will send it on to unwrittenLibra. A bunch of new books mentioned for my wish list too. Thanks cowgirl-up for sharing!

Got it here today in Baltimore, Maryland...might not get to it for a little while but I'm slowly but surely plugging through the books that I do have! Thanks, JerrilynnL!

Journal Entry 15 by UnwrittenLibra from Middleton, Wisconsin USA on Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Finished this book today! Sorry for keeping it longer than a month...

I wasn't too crazy about Ms. Nelson (read: I thought she was a little crazy) but some of the stuff she said made sense, like about suggesting/borrowing books from friends and being honest. I came out of it with a few new book suggestions but little else. At least it was a fairly quick read, even if it wasn't riveting.

PMed mirp, haven't received an address yet...will send once received...if you're reading this, mirp, PM me!

I really liked this book. I enjoyed being with the author, it was like listening to a friend. It made me envious of those who have insomnia...all that extra reading sounds wonderful.

I've pmed Hearth-Crafter. I hope to get it off in the post this week.

Thanks for sharing this lovely book with me.

this great book is finally on it's way to Hearth-Crafter. I hope it makes it to Australia safely.

Journal Entry 20 by Hearth-Crafter from Albury, New South Wales Australia on Sunday, May 11, 2008
Thank you cowgirl-up for starting this BookRay and for mirp for sending it all the way from Ireland!

This is a very fast and easy read, I received it in the mail the other day and yesterday I started it and have only a little way to go-probably will finish reading it tonight.

Like all overhyped books, I thought this book had a very good title and premise, but never delivered in the slightest-I think BookCrossers couldn't have done a worse job!

This book reads alot like one long book review of the books she has read or is attempting to read-after all that is her day job! She should stick to that day job and not write more books if it is to be as boring as this one!

cowgirl-up - when you find another Aussie for me to send this on to let me know...meanwhile I shall try to fix the book as much as possible.

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
