I like Amy Tan and I love the idea of a novel set in Burma - I hope it is good!
This was a great book and I enjoyed it a lot. I nearly gave up about page 60 but suddenly the story kicked into life as the hapless American travellers departed San Francisco for their journey to China and Burma.
I enjoyed the not-so-subtle digs at Western tourists abroad who totally misunderstand the cultures they are visiting and, sometimes, the glories of what they nap through as their tour bus takes them from point A to point B. It was acidly amusing and wry in many places.
Very enjoyable book. I will be releasing this into the wild - I hope whoever finds the book enjoys it.
