This is such an amazing, thought-provoking, sometimes scary book...I couldn't resist buying this another copy at the Friends of the Library bookstore. I would love to share this story with someone.

I just got this in the mail. I was so excited! This is not my first Margaret Atwood book; I have also read Lady Oracle, Cat's Eye, and The Blind Assassin. I'm going to start reading this right away!

I thought this was fantastic book, a politcal jab at male supremecy in our society from Margaret Atwood. It is written marvelously, and the story makes you think quite a bit.

Margaret Atwood has created a future society out of the United States, now the Republic of Gilead. It is a twisted and terrible time, where people are oppressed, namely women. In this we read the thoughts of Offred, a Handmaid. Handmaids, really, are just fertile women in a time of infertile women, and their only purpose is to create children, although they are treated as prisoners. It's a fantastic novel. Very ominous.

I'm going to give this book to a friend of mine. She reads a lot, and I think she'll enjoy it. I bought her a copy of The Blind Assassin as a gift, and she loved that.

I recieved this book from my buddy oh-jeez-tower; thanks. Its taken me a while to finally come here and say that I had it, sorry about that. As for the book. I liked it... but my first Margaret Atwood book was The Blind Assasin, and it was my favorite out of the 2. This one really made me think, was enlightening yet frightening, especially in our day and age of craziness in the world. I loved it toward the end of the book, where Offred started to rebel in her own little ways, that were huge issues in the Republic of Gilead. Good for her. I loved the ending, and overall, it was a good read. I plan on leaving this one in a rest area somewhere in Nebraska when I go on a trip to Colorado in 2 weeks; I can't wait to release her!

Released on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at Mocha Molly's in Steamboat Springs, Colorado USA.

I left this in Mocha Molly's coffee shop in downtown Steamboat Springs when I went in for a cappucino. Hope somebody found it right by the napkin dispenser! ;)
