Book cover blurb...
"High in the mountains, Zel lives with her mother, who insists they have all they need, for they have each other. Zel's life is peaceful and protected – until a chance encounter changes everything. When she meets a beautiful young prince at the market one day, she is profoundly moved by new emotions. But, Zel's mother sees the future unfolding – and she will do the unspeakable to prevent Zel from leaving her..."

Obviously this is Ms. Napoli's take on Repunzel. She stayed true to the story I have heard but gave a little insight to why Mother would lock Repunzel in a tower. Although I did enjoy it, this back story is not as strong as others she has written. I'm not quite sure what the goose is all about. And Konrad doesn't make that much of an impression. Zel herself is wonderful and I did understand her need to still love her mother after what she had done.

Has anyone read a Repunzel story that included Repunzel painting? I don't remember that but in the Barbie movie version (which really wrecked the story by the way) Repunzel was an artist. Did Donna Jo Napoli take that from Barbie? I have to re-read Repunzel. :)

This book really does seem interesting, but I can't seem to get into it right now. Maybe sometime later. Will send to the next person when I receive an address.

Alright, I'm a bad bookcrosser. I received this ages ago and read it, too, but apparently I never journaled it. Anyway, I liked it a lot. Thanks for sending it. :) Will send it on soon.
