Book Description:
"A Door into Ocean is the novel upon which the author's reputation as an important SF writer principally rests. A ground-breaking work both of feminist SF and of world-building hard SF, it concerns the Sharers of Shora, a nation of women on a distant moon in the far future who are pacifists, highly advanced in biological sciences, and who reproduce by parthenogenesis--there are no males--and tells of the conflicts that erupt when a neighboring civilization decides to develop their ocean world, and send in an army."

Thanks Crimsontide! Woohoo, blue people! Never read anything by this author before - looks like a corker though!
Journal Entry 4 by jennymidget from Oadby, Leicestershire United Kingdom on Sunday, February 4, 2007
A beautifully sad (if long-winded!) story of a peaceful people who try to understand and share with a planet of humans, and are invaded, tortured and killed for their troubles until they ultimately triumph.

Thankyou, jennymidget. I know I'll love this one.
I loved the way the Shorans "shared" everything for the good of the whole planet, and attempted to share with strangers as well. The actions of the Valedons seemed typical of men's "shoot first, ask questions later" attitude. It is much easier to kill than to try understanding.
