This is a good story but I kept thinking it was written with Hollywood in mind. It wasn't as good as Jurassic Park and Airplane (which were excellent) as I could easily guess the outcome but it did have a few surprises. Crichton definitely has a message he wants to share but because I didn't connect with the characters I also didn't connect with the issue he was trying to get across.

We have a new technology... we're exploring the frontiers of science... but something's gone terribly wrong... we've lost control of our new creation... thank god for a team of dedicated scientist we've brought in to take care of this for us and save our company.

Fill in new technology, and you have every Crichton novel ever written. It's all in the details. I am such a nerd. Fascinating physics issues! Evolutionary algorithms! Missing computer codes! Yes, I am a nerd.

Mailing this out soon...

This book is safe and sound in West Virginia. I'm going on a trip next week and should have it finished upon my return, and ready to journal and pass along. Thanks.

P.S. This book is in GREAT shape - it looks as if it is brand new, and definitely NOT like it's been through mulitple journalers already!

Got through this one quicker than I thought I would...very easy read. I liked the idea behind PREY much better than the actual novel - the science was interesting, but the story and the movtivations/actions of the characters left a bit to be desired - prepare for some pretty large suspension of disbelief when reading this one.

I received this in the mail the other day. I agree with the Grover. I'm amazed that the condition of the book is so good after having multiple people read it. That's the advantage of hardcovers though. I love Michael Crichton's work. I have read almost all of his books and I am looking forward to reading this one as well. I'll write again once I've finished it.

This wasn't one of Crichton's best novels, but I still enjoyed it. I agree that the main characters weren't very interesting. I actually thought the swarms themselves were more fascinating than the characters trying to stop them. Overall, I am always entertained by the depth of Crichton's work. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of research that goes into a project like this. It is amazing to be able to describe such inticate subjects. He has a real flare for that.

One of the best suspense novels I have read in a long time. Every page kept me glued to the sofa. Outstanding. Love this author. Will return to my friend "OLDREADER"
