From the back: Det. Inspector John Rebus may have gone too far - a bit of back chat is one thing, but letting fly at the Chief Superintendent with a full mug of the vending machine's finest can't be ignored. Rebus is sent back to the Police College for retraining along with four of the Scottish Force's more unorthodox detectives.
But there's something bigger in the offing. The unsolved case the malcontents have been assigned to is one some of the team are familiar with. Rebus knew the victim only too well. Is the choice of case deliberate? Are the Big House looking not to resurrect their erstwhile colleagues, but rather to find a way of getting rid of them for good?

Haha! I couldn't think what this bookbag was, but it's not a bookbag, they're ALL MINE! Bwahahahahahaahahahaha! Thanks Ro.
Rebus can't keep himself out of trouble, can he? This is a very good example of that, as he lurches from danger to danger. He's the sort of maverick that upper management won't be sorry to see the back of, but are perfectly happy to make use of if they have to have him around.
This is a good Rebus episode. There's a lot going on.
