A nice way to experience the outdoors while comfily reading a book indoors. The sections of the book which followed Bryson and Katz were very enjoyable and funny, but unfortunately only lasted through the first half of the book. The second half contained lots of history of the Appalachian Trail and the East Coast, which led to dry reading, though informative. The book is a great narrative of hiking, I just found it quite tired towards the end. The best parts were reading the history and his take on places that I've been, including Harper's Ferry and Mt. Washington. I'm not sure how it would have been for a reader who hadn't done any backpacking, so there may have been more interest in his general descriptions of hiking. Overall a decent book that may actually be more appealing to non-hikers than to those who have experienced some of what Bryson narrates.
