Just finished reading this. What moving story of family and family ties - most especially of mothers and daughters. Its also a great insight to Chinese culture and beliefs.
I couldn't put this one down.

This is going to JuneBug31 on January 19th, 2003.

This was my first time reading a Tan novel and I wasn't disappointed. A touching story about a complicated mother and daughter relationship and the secrets that follow them. Amazing how Tan is able to weave together the lives of three generations of Chinese and Chinese/American women. The story also shows how we are able to cope with pain and tragedy and still move forward and survive.

Thanks for passing it on cestmoi!

Although this novel started out slowly, it turned out to be a beautiful and intriguing story. I enjoyed learning about Chinese culture, something I am rather ignorant about.

I'll be passing this one on to vhackett.
