The Back of the Book

Jo Bettany has been ill. Now, on her way to Austria, all she can think about are the mountains she will see, the snow, the lakes - and the adventures in store for her. Her older sister, Madge, is opening a school for girls from all over the world - and Jo will be her first pupil.

So begins a marvellous series of stories which take you to the Austrian Tyrol, Switzerland, Guernsey, England - and back to Switzerland. In all of them you can follow the romantic and exciting adventures of the girls of the Chalet School.

Although the sub-text is now very dated (ie Madge's need to have a man to help her with a difficult situation) this was a lovely trip down memory lane for me.

Offered as BookRing.

Wonderful! This took me right back to my childhood when I loved to read the Chalet School books. Delightfully unPC at times. I have another couple on Mount TBR I'm looking forward to reading too.

This will be off to AnglersRest soon. Thank you laura0141 for the trip down memory lane!

Devoured in one sitting, while the movie King Kong was on the telly last night (horrid film!). I don't recall ever reading this one as a child, but there seemed to be a familiar comfortable feel to it, so I either have read it in the distant past or it reminds me of another book. It was very un PC in places, but that is part of the charm, and the book should be accepted as is, warts and all!

I'll PM loopy and get this off in the next few days.

Apologies for not journalling a couple of days ago when this book arrived. Although I don't think I ever read this particular book, I read some of the Chalet School books, and always wanted to go to a school where they spoke lots of different languages, so it's nice to see how it all began.

I'm already just over halfway through, and am finding it a nice relaxing read, at the time of year where I can't concentrate on anything too heavy.

Thanks for including me on this - please remind me, is it just this one or the series I've signed up for? Because I really want to read the rest now!

I'll be passing this back to Laura in a day or so when I've finished it.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice step back into childhood for a while, and I wish I could have gone to the Chalet School. Alternatively, maybe I should set myself up in business and run my own!
I'll be looking out for others in the series now.
Thanks for sharing!

Since I am a big fan of the Chalet school series I am delighted to get the first one in that, and with the ooriginal cover. Also that it has made its way all over the world - the UK, India and now Canada.
