I found this at a used book sale and picked it up because I'm curious about Hilary's thoughts on the subject of child rearing. I'm about 100 pages into it and find her to have very idealistic perspectives. She often relates her own experiences as a mother as similar to every mother's experience. Some parts are annoying me such as the chapter on IQ and the "blame the mother" philosophy she instills. I do beleive that nurture plays a huge role in development, but also know that genetics and medical issues also play a role. She offers some thoughtful insight and perspective on how the "village" as a whole is failing out children and suggests that it is possible to pull together as a community to better children's lives. All in all, I'm enjoying this book and plan to finish it soon.
The only other concern I have to voice is that she cites a lot of studies in her book and doesn't give any indication of where she found the information. I would have appreciated a bibliography in order to check out some of the claims she makes.

Why, thank you, Mom2jwn! What a nice surprise to receive this book in the mail as a RABCK! This was actually a book I had seen in my book store a few months ago and thought about buying.
Since Hillary is going to be a viable Presidential candidate in the upcoming election, I'm eager to read her thoughts about children as a part of our society. I mostly would like to do this to be able to refute accusations against Hillary that she was not a good mom in a book I just read (and hated) called "The Truth About Hillary".
I appreciate your kindness very much.

I took this book with me on a weekend trip to a friend's river house. I started to read the book, but I couldn't stay interested in it. I didn't read enough of it to give it a fair evaluation, but I will try to find it another reader.
