Given to me by a friend, will probably put it onto my list of availables.

A brief synopis of the back:-

Spring 1666: when the Great Plague reaches the Derbyshire village of Eyam, the villagers make an extraordinary decision. They elect to isolate themselves in a fateful quarantine. So begins the Year of Wonders, seen through eighteen-year-old Anna Frith's eyes as she confronts the lost of her family, the disintegration of her community, and the lure of a dangerous and illicit love. Based on a true story, this novel explores love and learning, fear and fanaticism, and the struggles of seventeenth-century science and religion to interpret the world at the cusp of the modern era etc....

I've kept thinking of reading this but not thought I was "in the mood" for it. However as the book from another bookcrosser that I've had in my possession for longest, I thought I'd give it a go. I'm glad I did. The atmosphere of the village and feelings of the protagonist are strongly evoked and I quickly found myself involved with Anna's story. I liked the way the strong women of the village were portrayed - as well as their complexities of character. In some parts slightly shocking (but then, probably nothing worse than goes on today) and compelling. Thanks Jill!

This is my book for one of the UnCon Bookswaps. Shhhhh!

I'd just finished having a conversation with other bookcrossers at the Uncon about this book when I excused myself to go and join in the bookswap. And which book should appear in the bookswap?! Well, with a coincidence like that I couldn't very well let someone else take it home, could I! It looks like a good read, although with the amount mount TBR's grown by since the Uncon it might take me a while to get to it.

I started reading this yesterday on the train down to London, and then finished it on the epic journey back.

I really enjoyed it - I already knew a little bit about the village of Eyam and this book really brought the village to life at the time of the Plague. It's made me want to find out even more about this amazing village and the sacrifice they all made in order to contain the Plague and stop its spread through Derbyshire.

Thanks, bigcurlyloz!

I found this book, a couple of months back and have been reading it when I can. When I found it and realised it was a BookCrossing book, I was excited as I had heard them talking about it on the radio and thought it sounded interesting. So I thought I'd give it a try.
So far I have really enjoyed reading 'Year of Wonders' and have nearly finished it and hope to release it beginning of January next year, but I don't know where yet.
