In this collection of short stories the voices are various, from how a schoolgirl copes with having her face slashed open with a razor by her best friend, to the teacher who is scoring drugs from her pupils and finding the whole thing is getting dangerously out of hand.
From the back of the book:
"Wicked, irreverent and funny, this dazzling literary debut shows the flip side of suburban life. From Scandinavian satanic heavy metal bands, to internet dating and drug-therapy teachers, My Date With Satan embraces the sublime and the ridiculous with a style which is both tender and unflinchingly abrasive."

I'm opening this book up as a book ring (ie I want it back at the end of its travels.) If you would like to join, please send me a PM with your name and country of where you live (I'll try to order the list so that postage costs are kept to a minimum).
This is a fairly light book. Even with adequate packaging, it should cost about ÂŁ1.00 to send domestically in the UK and about ÂŁ1.60 to send economy mail overseas.
Some brief "guidelines"
* Journal the book when you receive it.
* PM the next person on the list for their address when you receive it so as to try to avoid hold-ups later on.
* If you don't hear from the next participant within a few days, PM them again. If after a few more days you still haven't heard from them, PM me to let me know, and move on to the next person on the list.
* Read (and hopefully enjoy!) Don't feel pressurised to read it in a rush (and remember that life gets in the way sometimes for all of us!) but if you need to keep hold of the book for longer than say six weeks or a couple of months, please journal to let us know.
* Journal again when you've read it to let us know what you think of it!
* Surface/economy mail is fine, but please make a note in a journal entry so the person you're sending to has a rough idea of when to expect it.
Participants (provisional order)
Reddeerforum (UK, anywhere)
LadyIndigo01 (UK, prefers UK)
notingnothing (UK, anywhere)
tuff517 (US, anywhere)
dolph1n (would like to be towards end)(UK, prefers UK)
And then back to me in the UK

Hmmm... to be honest, I was disappointed with this book. There were a couple of stories I liked - but the rest, I couldn't "gel" with.
I really enjoyed "Beauty Treatment" (the first short story) and in some ways, it was a shame this was first because of the standard it set for the other stories. Also enjoyed the story about the teacher getting drugs from her students.
For anyone after a another short story collection, I'd recommend "No Love is This" by Tracy Sinclair :)
Have PMed Tuff517 and will post on once I have address.
Thank you :)

Posted today...
I received this last week and then went out of town, but the good news is that I've finished it. I enjoyed these stories, which made me think of the one book I've read by Neil Gaiman, for the humor and truth in them. I think my favorite was "Sally's Story". I'll be contacting dolph1n for shipping info. Thanks for sharing!
Received in the post today, thanks
I liked the first and the last stories but not much in between.

Now safely back with me. Thanks to all who have participated in this ring: I'm very much looking forward to reading this myself now.
