This Book is Currently in the Wild!
1 journaler for this copy...
Written in 1995, when a probe to go to Titan was just being designed, this book is quite topical now that the probe has just got there!
Baxter has done a good hard-science story of a mission to Titan using secondhand space shuttles and reconditioned rockets. Some of his internet technology is decidedly not hard-science, though, and distracts from an otherwise good story. (Just a little thought about the laws of geometrical optics is required!)
The political background is far-fetched, but with George W Bush in power, not very far-fetched - and hence quite frightening!
The bit I didn't like, though, was the ending. We might export life to the stars in the way he suggests, but I think it is human Knowledge that we need to preserve...
I'll put this on my bookcase to re-read some day, but mark it available in case anyone else wants it first.
Edit to add: My other copy has also been released.
