"Hastings in the seventies is not the coolest place to be. As Rachael and Susan teeter on the brink of adolescence, they realise safety lies in numbers and the best chance of surviving their teens is to stick together. Their friendship protects them against the trials of parents, classmates, soggy chips, warm beer, aspiring guitar heroes, stoned hippies, men's clubs, derivative three-chord bands and emotional needines and weediness.

But when Dave, sophisticated London art student and unattainable boyfriend, enters their lives, they discover that sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll aren't always everything they've dreamed of. And then Punk music detonates the status quo and nothing will ever be the same again."

Many thanks, I'll get to this book as soon as I can. I'm currently half way through "Deep Fear" by Debi Gliori AND "The Magicians' Guild" by Trudi Canavan, but I should be able to get to this one in a week or so. :)

I was so excited to open this at breakfast! :D

This book was really good! I'd have probably felt more connected to it if I'd been 13 in the 70s, but it still made me laugh a lot. I never really had the girly-teen crises either, though, so most of the time I thought the main characters were a bit batty! But I still felt close to them. :) The prologue set the story up really well, and the twist at the end that connected to it finished it all off nicely.

I agree with this comment from the back cover apparently written by someone for the Sunday Express: "There isn't one dull passage. You could open the book at random, throw a dart and find something droll, well-observed and hard to forget."

Soon to be passed on to the next in line, once I have an address. I'll journal again once it's travelling.

Safe and sound.
This looks great, but my social life has suddenly gone berserk (something to do with my approaching 60th birthday and a lot of terrific friends and rellies who are deploying distraction tactics) :)

I will do my best tio get to this one asap.

This was a very quick read...just as well!
I enjoyed it very much, very witty and well observed. The '70's suddenly all came back to me!
I was married in 1972 and had my children in 73 and 76, so there wasn't quite the same connection for me, but that didn't alter my enjoyment.
I grew up in the '60's, and I have to say, I think it was more fun :)

I turned 13 in 1977 so this book brought a lot of memories back for me. I enjoyed the first half of the book very much, but then I thought it lost it's way a bit - still worth reading though.

I enjoyed parts of this book very much while others I didn't. I skimmed parts of the story. I'm SO sorry this has taken so long to move on, life got out of control for a while but is leveling out again. It is going to be sent to JerrilynnL this Thursday, our day off. It is in an envelope ready to go. Thank you for sharing.
