HERlibrary review: A truly delightful book and character. You will love to meet Mme Precious Ramotswe and hear her bits of daily wisdom as she experiences her ordinary yet extraordinary daily life. Do not come to this series expecting some great thriller or mystery, they are more about the rich texture of lives of a different culture that you are thrilled by the pure simplicity and richness of it all. Think of eating a well made milk custard;..simple, yet rich.

Will do a bookring if I get about 12 interested readers.

Book Description
The beloved first novel in The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, ... tells the story of the delightfully cunning and enormously engaging Precious Ramotswe, who is drawn to her profession to help people with problems in their lives. Immediately upon setting up shop in a small storefront in Gaborone, Mma Ramotswe is hired to track down a missing husband, uncover a con man, and follow a wayward daughter. But the case that tugs at her heart and lands her in danger is that of a missing eleven-year-old boy who may have been snatched by witch doctors.

This was a fun read! I love Mma Ramotswe and was especially fond of the fact that she doesn't take her self too seriously. I also appreciated the matter-of-fact (not overly romantacized) presentation of people and life in Botswana. I look forward to further adventures of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency...

Just finished reading. Not exactly what I expected. Lovely writing style tho. Heavy on the character personality & geographical background, light on the mystery & detective work really.

Have PMd AbbyR for her address and will be sending it on soon. Thanks for the chance to read this one!

Added 8/5: AbbyR has asked to be skipped. Have PMd the next person for their address.

Sorry I took so long with the book, school has been very busy lately. The book is on its way to darkpunkangel.

This book is very different from the suspenseful mysteries that I have been reading lately. I really liked the slow pace and how the setting is almost like a character. I will definitely be recommending this one to others.

Came today, sounds like a interesting story reading the back. I'll be able to start it today or tomorrow. Thanks for including me in the ring herlibrary and thanks for sending the book to me esperanza03

What a cute and amusing read, I really love the main character, and it was fun to read about some of her cases. I actually appreciated learning about her father, he was a good man and it was so sad when he died. She was lucky to have a father like that. I wished that I did.

I already have musicgirl4's address, so I'll send this along shortly.

Book has arrived. I have two bookrings before I can start it. I will try my best to be quick. Thanks for the book,I am looking forward to it.

12th Nov I loved this book. It was heart warming to read about the kindness and supportiveness of the characters. If only real life could allow us to live in such trusting, helpful ways.I really want to read more books by this author. Thanks for the opportunity to read it. I will be posting it off to Dutchbooky tomorrow.

Jippee! It finally arrived. I have been reading some of the other Mma Ramotswe books, but never got round to reading the first one. Look forward to finishing it soon. I have a few books on the TBR pile, but will try to squeeze this one in. Next week, maybe, when I'll be travelling by train quite a lot for work! Thanks to herlibrary and musicgirl for sharing and sending!

What a great read! I joined rings for # 2 and 3 of this series and read them earlier this year. It felt a bit strange reading #1 now, but it was like reading about an old friend.
It seems to me that in this first book Mma Ramotswe has a lot more to do as a private detective, but maybe it is just assumed in the other books, that the reader knows about the smaller in between jobs. I am looking forward to reading the next one!

I have PM-ed Elsita for her address. As soon as I have it, I will mail the book out!

Edit Dec. 5: it is on its way today!

What a great read! This book made me feel well, I think it was because Mma Ramotswe has a nice way of dealing with her life and the others.
I'm looking forward to read more of her adventures!
Thanks, herlibrary, for sharing this book!
