I am never disappointed by Emma Donoghue. She writes from the heart and brings the reader along with her. This novel takes place over the span of three days and spans every emotion under the stars. It takes place at the end of WW1 during the Spanish Flu pandemic and it was interesting to read about how it was handled - not much differently from the COVID pandemic; wash your hands, cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze, stay home if you're unwell....It was also a reminder of the unwed mother/babies that ended up as indentured servants in Ireland that I recently learned about from reading Philomena.
