Journal Entry 5 by vexter from Ljubljana, Osrednja Slovenija - Okolica Ljubljane in Ljubljana Slovenia on Monday, June 19, 2006
Some "words of wisdom" from everyone's favorite Singleton, Bridget Jones. I liked the books (movies, not so much), so this was a fun read. Of course, everything is very Bridget-style.

One must always have basic rules at the heart of one's approach to anything. Here - before I share my favourite dishes - are mine in the world of cuisine.

1. It is best if possible not to try actually to cook anything.

2. It is impossible to overestimate the importance of timing - a good cook is a strategist as well as a craftsman - always have everything you will need ready before you start, e.g. phone numbers, cash, names of restaurants, take-aways etc.

I PMed mrspopoff, will ship the book as soon as I receive her address.

And Smurphie, thanks for the book and the postcards! I wish my workplace were as cool as yours! :)

Sending off on it's travels to Finland

Journal Entry 19 by bookwormess from Kotka, Kymenlaakso / Kymmenedalen Finland on Tuesday, March 6, 2007
Thank you so much Smurphie, the book arrived on Monday. It seems like a lot of fun, I have to say I really need Bridget's guiding at the moment. I'll put it in my TBR for a while as I have couple of books going at the mo'.

Journal Entry 20 by bookwormess from Kotka, Kymenlaakso / Kymmenedalen Finland on Wednesday, April 18, 2007
This was hilarious! I love Bridget and her thoughts, and this was very Bridgetish. One of the best parts was guidance for Romantic Emergencies. :D

I've decided to put this out as a ring here in Finland, as I promised to Smurphie that I would pass the book around here.

Participants:
lottuli, Helsinki
Niksu, Helsinki
Semming, Vantaa
Annelis, Vantaa
Niora, Joensuu
Lunatum, Oulu
bookwormess, Helsinki

EDIT ON 4/28/2007:

The ring starts today as I'm giving the book to lottuli.

Journal Entry 21 by lottuli from Pieksämäki, Etelä-Savo / Södra Savolax Finland on Sunday, April 29, 2007
The book was given to me by bookwormess, I try to be quick with the book, though I have three other ring books to be read too at the moment.

Journal Entry 22 by lottuli from Pieksämäki, Etelä-Savo / Södra Savolax Finland on Saturday, May 19, 2007
I don't know what my expectations really were when I started reading this little book. Made me laugh at times, but nothing special in the end. Maybe if the book was a bit longer it could have worked better on me?

Next this book will go to Niksu, most likely in our next meeting 24.5.

Journal Entry 23 by Niksu from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Wednesday, June 6, 2007
Got this little book from lottuli yesterday. It was a quick read as mentioned. I read it on a train when heading home from our monthly get-together.

My favourite part of the book was Shag, marry or push off a cliff-game. Kumman kaa is so five minutes ago in Finland so this would probably be nice entertainment with friends for a change.

Thanks for continuing the ring here in Finland, bookie;)

Edit 7.6.2007: Send to Semming today (because of my businesstrip). Keep Them Moving #45.

Journal Entry 24 by Semming from Jyväskylä, Keski-Suomi / Mellersta Finland Finland on Friday, June 8, 2007
Arrived today, thanks!

Journal Entry 25 by Semming from Jyväskylä, Keski-Suomi / Mellersta Finland Finland on Friday, June 15, 2007
Funky little book, an enjoyable read. I liked the Shag, marry or push off a cliff -bit and all the illustrations!

Journal Entry 26 by wingAnneliswing from Kerava, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Friday, August 24, 2007
I got the book today at The Night of the Arts and half read it on the train on my way home.
I found the Adaptable Cook and other texts about eating and cooking very funny and ah so necessary for the survival of some young people.
Once we bought a grilled chicken and my teenage son was in a hurry to go somewhere. He opened the wrapping attacking the bird with a fork and knife. "This chicken is all bones!" he shouted. I said that he should turn the chicken around because it obviliously was laying on its stomach. Then he would find something to eat.
Just yesterday the 22-year-old son of my colleague was cooking something new and phoned his mother asking what kind of thing is a "kasari" = sausepan which is mentioned in the recipe. We usually use the word "kattila" = kettle.
Some twenty years ago I went shopping. The children wanted to bake buns or rolls - NOW! of course - and my husband started to make the dough. But soon he had to interrupt the work because the receipt said "knead the dough" and he did not understand the Finnish word "alustaa" as it usually means something else. Well, he would not have understood the other suitable word either as "vaivata" usually means "to bother". So a bowl of half made dough was waiting for me when I got home.

This book is my #39 in Keep Them Moving Challenge by Guineveve

Journal Entry 27 by wingNiorawing from Kuopio, Pohjois-Savo / Norra Savolax Finland on Friday, August 31, 2007
Arrived in the mail today and seems a pretty hilarious read (I love the Bridget Jones novels). Thanks to Smurphie for releasing the book and bookwormess for organizing a bookring!

Journal Entry 28 by wingNiorawing from Kuopio, Pohjois-Savo / Norra Savolax Finland on Tuesday, September 4, 2007
I've read it and it was quite funny, although some of the jokes did come straight from the BJ books.

I hope nobody minds me having now lent the book to the girl I share my office with, as she immediately became interested when I told her about the book. (I don't think she'll journal it, but I'll ask and see.) I'll get it back from her by the end of the week, then forward it to Lunatum.

Journal Entry 29 by wingAnonymousFinderwing on Wednesday, September 5, 2007
I got the book from my office mate at work, and I am now giving it back to her

Journal Entry 30 by wingNiorawing from Kuopio, Pohjois-Savo / Norra Savolax Finland on Thursday, September 6, 2007
I got the book back yesterday and mailed it to Lunatum this morning.

Journal Entry 31 by wingNiorawing from Kuopio, Pohjois-Savo / Norra Savolax Finland on Wednesday, January 23, 2008
Just a situation update with this book... Lunatum says that it probably arrived back in September, but that she seems to have forgotten about journaling the book and it's now, most probably, in one of a whole bunch of boxes after her move. It'll be dug out eventually. So this book hasn't disappeared off the face of the earth, but it may be a while before it's back in circulation.

Journal Entry 32 by lunatum from Savukoski, Lappi / Lappland Finland on Thursday, January 24, 2008
This book has arrived months ago and I had forgotten this totally. This will be next book to be read. And sorry.

Journal Entry 33 by lunatum from Savukoski, Lappi / Lappland Finland on Friday, January 25, 2008
A funny little book. It was fast to read. Next this book will go to bookwormess.

Journal Entry 34 by bookwormess from Kotka, Kymenlaakso / Kymmenedalen Finland on Wednesday, January 30, 2008
Thank you all, the book is back with me. Now, what next... :)

EDIT Feb 14:
The book started it's journey to secret RABCK destination earlier this week.

Journal Entry 35 by winghetku77wing from Nokia, Pirkanmaa / Birkaland Finland on Monday, February 18, 2008
18.2. The book arrived by mail last week. Thank you for fulfilling my wish, bookwormess!

1.5. I read the book during the flight to London on Saturday April 19th, as I wanted to wild release it during my week-long holiday. I liked Bridget Jones diaries, but it's been a few years since I read them and I don't quite remember all about them anymore. I think this book would have probably worked better, if I had read it right after the Bridget Jones diaries. It was rather entertaining though.

A light-hearted guide to life through the eyes of Bridget Jones' author Helen Fielding. Made me chuckle as does Bridget. I really enjoy her irreverence and lack of genuine attempts to be the 'perfect' plastic woman portrayed as a role model by so many these days.
