Seems as if I have read a lot of dysfunctional-family fiction lately - CORRECTIONS, LOVELY BONES, and PEACE LIKE A RIVER. The Naumanns of BEE SEASON bring dysfunctional to a new height, and we get to experience it from every character's perspecitve. I enjoyed this book on all levels - the prose, the plot, the inventiveness and the information it imparts in addition to the story. I always like to learn a little something along with my entertainment/escape. I recommend it for those who like quirky characters a la Ann Tyler, John Irving, Wally Lamb, etc. and who aren't looking for feel-good happy endings.
