The Tommyknockers
3 journalers for this copy...
A writer named Roberta Anderson, living on the outskirts of the small town of Haven, Maine, is out looking for firewood in the forest behind her house when she stumbles over three inches of metal. She assumes that she has stumbled over a beer can left behind by a logger, but instead she discovers the metal is solid. What she has found is a space ship, buried in the earth for millions of years, but still vibrating faintly. So, Bobbi begins to dig the giant craft out of the earth by herself, soon to be joined by her friend and former lover Jim Gardener, and by the strange advanced technology that they are suddenly inspired to create. But as they uncover more of the ship Bobbi and Jim, as well as the rest of the citizens of Haven, all start to change.
Reserved for sherlockfan at the Uncon.

Collected with pleasure from Katisha50 who specially brought this book to the BCUK UnConvention for me.
I've not so far read Stephen King so hope this will prove a good introduction.
Taking the book with us on holiday in Ploumanac'h, Brittany where I expect to have lots of time to read.
Thanks very much K. for taking the trouble to bring this for me.
What a superb weekend.

This was my first Stephen King book and didn't really appeal to me sufficiently to make me think that I must read lots more of his books. Maybe I am too old to start reading this type of book. The theme did keep me reading and I had no trouble following the plot. Not at all surprised that the characters started to change as the plan developed.
I've discussed it with a BC friend who is a great Stephen King fan who suggested that perhaps this was not a good one to start with.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES:
Took this book with a collection of others to add to the bookshelf at Nomads. I was pleased to see that all the books I took there in June had disappeared although not one single one resulted in a journal entry, let alone new BookCrossers.
Better luck with this selection.

Must say this is quite a coincidence, I was on a History field trip to Wellington when i picked up this book 2 days ago.
Had nothing to do at night and sick of playing cards, so popped into the communal room and voila!
Just started reading, may finish in a couple of days and ill make another entry when the time comes.
