The Vagina Monologues

^This is a book every man should read - and of course every woman! I read it quite a few years ago and now it goes as a small surprise and "thank you" to Hshah in Mumbai, India. Mailed May 3rd.
Thank you book-man-8! Such a wonderful surprise. Am just starting on the book right aways!
Didnt really know what to expect when i received the book and was about to start reading. One hears a lot of things about change in the outlook towards a particular subject when one reads about it. Yes, i completely identify with this thought process now that i have read The Vagina Monologues. It has made me aware about what a woman is and that everything is beautiful. In a conservative society like India (though many may argue otherwise, i still think its conservative as one does not speak about subjects that are "taboo") one doesnt realise that not speaking or discussing things does not necessarily mean it does not exist.
I am a truely different woman after this read. And the best part is that my mother read the book and as opposed to what i thought she enjoyed it. We now willingly talk about things that i never dreamt that i would discuss with her.
Thanks very much book-man-8!!! Am going to send this out as a BookRing after my cousin reads it.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
RELEASE NOTES: Sorry for the delay. Now its finally on its way to charlenemartel in Ontario, Canada! Enjoy!
Arrived safely and has been read. I enjoyed reading this book and learned a great deal from it. I hadn't realised this was honestly anything more than a play and now I know what a great cause it is for.
Messaging the next person for info and will mail as soon as I get those details.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the book. I'm driving to Calgary tomorrow and I will bring it along. I snuck a peek, however, and I think this might possibly be the most anti-Valentine's Day book I could read. Which is ironic. I'm hoping it won't make me mad at my very nice boyfriend who doesn't deserve to suffer on behalf of some of the more rude men in the world. We'll give it a try and see if my first impression is changed.
Okay, I was totally wrong about this book! It was not anti-man at all, and it was very Valentine's Day. Although it makes it clear how insidious sexual abuse really is, I think it's more about the recovery from abuse and how sex and love and trust can again lead to a positive look on life, as long as we are all careful and don't ignore the problem! (Awareness can lead to prevention!) I can't believe that I actually picked it up ON Valentine's Day, WITHOUT knowing that Valentine's Day was also V-Day, or Vagina Day!!! I was very glad to be a part of this ring.
I thought the choice of stories was really interesting, considering how many hundreds of stories the author listened to before writing the book. It's really short. She could have put a lot more in, and surely a lot more horrible stories. But the message was really clear based on the simple and few stories that were included.
It will be sent to the next bookcrosser soon.
Feb. 27th/07 - the book has been mailed!

This book has finally arrived. Actually, it arrived earlier last week. I thought I had journaled it already, but, apparently, I did not. My bad! Thank you for sending it my way Fran-kinstein! I will get to it very soon.
This book was fantastic! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, even though some of the monologues were heartbreaking. I just happened to catch 'The Vagina Monologues' on HBO shortly after I read the book, very funny, very sad. I also liked the foreword by Gloria Steinem. Cunt! Cunt! I don't know, I'm still not too fond of that word, but it was nice to learn of it's origins. How did it end up being derogatory, I wonder? I highly recommend this book! February 14th is V-Day from now on!
Thank you very much for allowing me to participate in this ring hshah. I cannot apologize enough for having kept it for so long, but I will pass it along to Aberpeter very shortly.

What a great book! I couldn't put it down once I started. Eve compiled all of her interviews into one great piece. I wish she could have included more.
I will pm deadsteen for an address and I might even read it through one more time before dropping it off at the post office.

Has arrived, 1 book ahead of it.
Aug 17-- this book only took a couple of hours to read, and it was a great investment of time! I enjoyed it very much and it definitely got me thinking about how women are treated, not only in America but all over the world. I also enjoyed the letters from everyone involved in V-Day and productions of The Vagina Monlogues in communities across America. Great choice for a book ring. I mailed the book yesterday.

Received over the weekend and will start it soon! Thanks!
I finished over the weekend and it will be on its way next week. I vividly remember the '70s so a lot of the empowerment concepts were familiar to me. It's very sad that once the world was female oriented and religion was goddess-based and now women are commonly treated so badly all over the world. It can't be a good thing when the world turns away from creation and embraces destruction. We women need to take it back!
On the way to Australia!

I'm sure the performance of The Vagina Monologues must have been a very moving experience. The book was interesting but really needs the theatre atmosphere to live up to its potential - I can't imagine not bursting into tears during "My Vagina Was My Village". I really liked "My Angry Vagina" - I too am sick to death of advertised products for us to shove up there. I love the idea of reclaiming vagina & cunt (the word men have perverted to mean the most disgusting thing in the world).
The statistics of violence against women are horrific - thankyou patriarchs - it makes one extremely angry indeed. Vagina-Day is a much more useful purpose for February 14th.
Thanks hshah, I now await kangu's response.

Finally arriving home early for once from work I found this book in my letterbox!.. sat down after dinner for a short read ...and finished it soon after!!!
it was totally engrossing and I had to fight my partner off as he read over my shoulder! but I have to agree with CATASLIVE it would have a better impact on stage.. but still worth a peek into on paper..
will post it to the next person on the RING LIST
thanks CATSALIVE and HSHAH!
26th nov.. travelling!!!! on its way to FRANCE! :-)

I found this book in my letterbox on Monday - thank you, hshah, for the bookring and thank you, kangu, for sending it!
A very important book which indeed every woman and man should read.
It was shocking at times and at the same time there were very funny passages.
The pages in the back (about the beginnings of V-Day) were interesting, I had never heard of V-Day before, but I think it's important that it keeps existing, because unfortunately there are still a lot of women suffering from violence these days and there need to be more homes or houses where they can find shelter.
It's on its way to BettyBoekwurm since today.

Strange, disturbing, funny, empowering. It's hard to describe, but this was a really interesting read. I read it during a train ride and even re-read a few parts later on. I'd love to get the chance to watch a performance some day.
Thanks for sharing hshah. Am waiting for the next person's address.

Thanks, the book arrived some days ago and as soon as my very tight schedule allows it I'll read it.
I've seen several performances so far and I am really curious.

I've read the book already a while ago on a bike tour. It must have somehow slipped under a pile of other books as soon as I've been back home. So, I am very sorry for keeping it that long, I just thought I sent it off, while it was lying here all the time.
I preferred the play to the book, but I understand the impact it can have. It is a very fast read but keeps popping up in your mind for much longer. It still does actually.

Arrived this morning, thanks for sending
I really wasn't sure what to make of this book. It was interesting & disturbing at the same time and actually quite reflective reading. Perhaps it is worth seeing the show - ironically yesterday I saw a advert for the show, which is I think from memory being done in Oxford......perhaps?
I wonder what Twicky will make of this? Now in the post to Twicky.
