This is the latest book (May 2006) chosen by my bookclub.
Not a book I'd readily choose from the cover - but that's what belonging to a bookclub (and bookcrossing) is all about! Stretch those horizons!

From Amazon: Synopsis
The Smart family's lacklustre holiday in Norwich is turned upside down when a beguiling stranger called Amber appears, bringing with her love, joy, pain and upheaval. The Smarts try to make sense of their bewildering emotions as Amber tramples over family boundaries and forces them to think about their world and themselves in an entirely new way. "The Accidental" is at once a mysterious web of secret identities and a ruthlessly honest look at the silent cracks that can develop unnoticed in relationships over time.

I couldn't get on with this book. It was mainly down to the writing style I think, as it is told from the point of view of a twelve year old girl and I just couldn't get into her head enough to enjoy the story. It seemed to jump about a lot from one idea to the next (as children do) and it just put me off.
So, moving on....

Off to camis tomorrow; who won it in the BCUK Extra "The" Swap. Hope you get on better with it than I did:)

Received safely - thank you.

Really not sure what to say about this book. I can see why it won loads of awards, but in some ways it was almost trying to be too clever. The writing jumped from character to character (none of whom I had any sympathy for) and the story was very 'bitty' - things happened that were never explained.

Not one of my favourite reads.
