Picked this up at the Goodies OBCZ en route to a weekend in Suffolk as part of a 10 day Autumn break. It's a fascinating shop - and well worth a visit even without the added attraction of the bookshelves - but I was very disappointed not to meet Pakasanelly (sp?) in person :-)

Don't know what to expect but it looks interesting ....

This is a charming olde worlde tale of growing up as a 17 year old girl goes to her first dance in the 1920s. Nothing much happens - and doesn't do so in a leisurely, gentle and meandering way! It's pretty much what you woud expect from a Virago Modern Classic in its distinctive green livery. It reminded me of Virginia Woolf, particularly To the Lighthouse, but that might just be because that's the one I've read most recently and can therefore remember most clearly.
