When I worked in a bookstore this book was put in the 'Romance' section of the store so I avoided it like the plague. Hey! I was a young independent woman in the late 90's, romance novels ranked up there with porn for us!! I've relaxed a bit now and will read just about anything; well I'm still not into porn.

Anyhoo. A couple of months ago I did the coffee thing with a friend and she told me about this book so I picked it up on one of my weekly trips to the library. I ended up buying the paperback because I forgot to renew the book before it was overdue and that pesky library wanted me to pay the fine before I could check it out again…the NERVE! Plus, it’s a really long book, which combined with the Scottish dialect resulted in me taking a lot longer than normal to read this one so buying just made sense. Towards the end I got into the groove and was able to pick up the pace a bit.

WARNING! This book is part of a series of equally as long books. Be prepared to invest a great deal of time and emotion into Claire & Jamie’s story!! I can see myself getting as wrapped up in where Claire and Jamie’s love goes as I do with Eve and Roarke in JD Robb’s ‘In Death’ series (yes! romance).

When truckmama gave me this book to read, all I knew about it was that it is loooong. I'm sorry to say I delayed reading it for ages because of this. Big mistake. Huge! This book is incredibly well written and has an engaging plot in addition to the tangled love story. As a writer, it was refreshing to sit back and read without catching constant blunders and grammar errors. Very impressive editing.

As truckmama said, this is the first in a series, to which I am now hopelessly committed. I just purchased number 2.

Outlander is heading out to Toronto tomorrow morning. Can only hope my dear pal adores it as much as I do.
